It is Halloween already! Time to get ready for all the cute trick-or-treaters who will be knocking on the door. Halloween is a fun holiday for the kids but does it need to also be an unhealthy holiday? Unfortunately, our kids are already bombarded by traditions loaded with dangerous food dyes, artificial flavors, tons of sugar and allergens. As parents, we get to set the example for our children. We can start this Halloween by removing the junk food focus. Here are some ideas for treats you can give out that are not candy related:

  • Non-toxic slime
  • Pencils and pens
  • Balls and other small toys (we love Oriental Trading as a resource for these)
  • Change
  • Stickers
  • Crafts
  • Books
  • Erasers
  • Crayons
  • Non-toxic playdoh
  • Non-toxic tatoos
  • Cardboard airplanes

The sky is the limit as to what you can give out. Think outside of the box, have fun and enjoy the hoiday without the junk! And of course, if your kids come home with mounds of candy and junk, introduce them to the Candy Fairy.
