Megan Kowalchick is a Licensed Master Social Worker with a passion for improving the social and emotional wellness of children, youth, and their families. She believes that positive relationships are the key to success for people of all ages, and aims to aid in the development of such relationships in the lives of the people with whom she works.
Megan’s goal is to motivate children and their families to identify, develop, and trust in their inner strengths and abilities. It is her genuine belief that a child with a positive support system will have the ability to believe in themselves, and will therefore believe that they are capable of great things. After receiving her undergraduate degree in Adolescent Education and English at Molloy College, Megan found that she wanted to help youth in a much deeper capacity than teaching would allow. During the completion of her Master of Social Work degree at Arizona State University, Megan had the opportunity to complete her year-long internships as a Mental Health Counselor with the City of Phoenix Head Start Program, and a school social worker with a Phoenix elementary school. These opportunities in her educational career allowed her to recognize her love for working with children, youth, and the people with whom they interact on a daily basis (i.e., families, teachers, daycare providers, etc.).As a Master Social Worker, Megan worked as a Mental Health Consultant in the central Phoenix area by working closely with daycare staff in order to aid in identifying and helping children with social and emotional issues to develop positive behaviors and the skills they need to be successful. This experience included instructional training, one on one direct consultation, modeling of strategies, the development of behavioral plans with teachers and families, regular interdisciplinary meetings with staff, parents, and other specialists, in addition to connecting families with other resources throughout the community in order to improve the overall health and climate of the family unit.
Megan’s experiences in both the classroom and the social work field led her to recognize her ability to reach both children and adults in need of encouragement, skill development, self exploration, and positive interaction. Her aim of providing a comfortable therapeutic environment, in addition to the use of client input and feedback in treatment, is a necessary piece of her mental health approach.
