About Neurofeedback

Did you know that many behavioral, mental health, and even physical health issues are rooted in brainwave imbalance? Did you know that by providing the brain with feedback, you can actually change the way the brain functions? BrainCore Neurofeedback is a unique, drugless approach to addressing brainwave imbalance. Neurofeedback is a guided exercise for brainwave patterns that may have become imbalanced. These imbalances have been linked to symptoms or conditions such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Headaches & Migraines
  • PTSD
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Panic Attacks
  • Learning Disorders
  • Autism

Neurofeedback also helps people recover from traumatic brain injuries and strokes and can also be used for peak performance training.

How Does Neurofeedback Work?

The goal of neurofeedback is to correct brainwave imbalances.

To achieve this, you will go through a series of neurofeedback training sessions. These sessions use non-invasive technology to record the brainwaves coming from the brain.

The technology automatically detects when the brainwaves are properly ordered, and it feeds that information back to the patient as a reward. This feedback appears it the form of a game, movie, or sound that signals to a client that the brainwaves are becoming more organized; this is known as operant conditioning. The process is comfortable, easy and enjoyable. The best part is you sit back and do nothing – your brain automatically does the work!

Understanding Brain Wave Imbalances

A balanced bran produces distinct brainwaves. Four that have been identified with common symptoms are: Alpha, Beta, Theta and Delta. A healthy and balanced brain will produce the appropriate brainwaves at the correct levels at the proper times. When this does not occur, we call it brainwave imbalance. Imbalances in specific brainwave patterns are associated with specific symptoms. Once the specific imbalance is identified, we can use neurofeedback to correct it.

Alpha Imbalances Are Related To:

  • Depression
  • Irritability
  • Excessive self-concern
  • Anger
  • Agitation
  • Self-deprecation
  • Rumination
  • Fibromyalgia

Beta Imbalances Are Related To:

  • Anxiety
  • OCD
  • Insomnia
  • Obsessive thinking
  • Headaches
  • Migraines
  • Worry
  • Panic attacks
  • Restlessness
  • Chronic pain

Delta/Theta Imbalances Are Related To:

  • Cognitive impairment
  • Impulsivity
  • Hyperactivity
  • Socially inappropriate
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Learning disorders
  • Dementia
  • Disorganization
  • Autism spectrum disorders

Getting Started

To see if you are a good candidate for neurofeedback, please call South Bay Wellness to speak with a certified neurofeedback practitioner. If it is determined that you are a good candidate, we will schedule you for a QEEG scan. The QEEG is a painless, non-invasive test used to record your brainwave patterns and identify imbalances. For the QEEG, sensors are placed on the scalp that read the electrical activity of the brain. The practitioner will review the QEEG results with you and develop a personalized neurofeedback training program.
